After my posts on FICRA and the fact that it has been taken over by John Dowson it was interesting to read on Freo’s View a comment from Councillor Robert Fittock who stated “The good standing FICRA enjoyed in the wider community has been severely compromised by a single-minded and manipulative individual – the meeting on Tuesday night was a disgrace.”
Also read the comments of freoishome who was ashamed at the hissing and booing, and the fact FICRA aren’t experienced at trying to control large groups.
This week I was having breakfast with an IGA supermarket proprietor who was complaining about his electricity bill which has gone up about 20%.
I said that he should blame the Carbon Tax and he disagreed, so I looked up an article by Alan Moran writing for the Institute of Public Affairs way back in November 2011.
He writes that “the carbon tax has an impact on every single Australian and every single Australian business which is why we have produced this research. The tax comes on top of existing measures including the requirement to have very expensive renewable energy mixed into the general electricity supply, at a cost of hundreds of dollars per year to the average household.”
The IPA has distributed thousands of postcards to small businesses highlighting a new research tool which allows Australians to calculate the impact to their budgets from the carbon tax.
The calculator is available at http://www.carbontaxcalc.com
